Posted in Career on June 2nd, 2020

Most people know that when they have a car accident, there’s a process of things to do to get the help that you need. They know that if they fall off a ladder at home, they can go to the hospital and get some help. The one place it becomes confusing is the workplace. An injury of work has a range of different processes depending on the manager you have.

It’s so important that you get educated quickly on the procedures that your job has to know how to handle a workplace injury.

Whether it’s a small injury due to tripping over, or a piece of machinery affects you and you end up seriously injured, you need to know that you may need to make a claim within two years. You need to know how to handle things when you are injured in the workplace, and we’ve got a list of things that will help. Let’s take a look:

  • The first thing to do is to tell your supervisor. You can’t have an injury at work and not report it, as you could find that you need to consider an accident report form that needs to be filled out. If you alert your boss to the situation, you will be able to get it on record and get the legal team in your business involved.
  • If you are given any documentation because of your injury and the involved treatment, you need to keep hold of all of the paperwork. The doctor and the hospital will give you a sheaf of paperwork about your injury; and you need to keep it all. The procedures that your workplace has to follow are detailed in the policies and the workplace handbook. This is down to insurance as much as it is your safety, so you need to make sure that you have the paperwork to help your case for workers compensation.
  • You have to keep all your paperwork, but you need to also make a copy of everything, too. This will ensure that you are protected in case your insurance provider needs it. You should always have extra – just in case.
  • File your claim for workers compensation. It’s so important that you put your claim in – for your own benefit. You could find that you are off work for some time, which means that you need to be covered for your mortgage and your bills. Don’t be out of pocket out of a false sense of loyalty to your job. You are not disloyal for getting what is deserved to you.
  • Wherever possible, you need to pay attention to the orders of your doctor. You need to ensure that you follow every piece of advice you are given about your health. The last thing that you want to do is to stop taking medication or heading to physiotherapy. Your health depends on you listening and following directions.

If you are in a workplace accident, follow the steps above and you’ll handle it really well!
